GoldenEye 360 - could there have been a Wii port too?

snap148.JPG

Scans from the Xbox World 360 Magazine article about the cancelled 360 port of the N64 classic GoldenEye are up at GAF and filefront.com. According to the article, Nintendo, Activision (current holders of the Bond franchise) and Rare/Microsoft had reached an agreement to provide Nintendo with Rare classics for virtual console and a Wii version of the GoldenEye 360 port in exchange for permission to port the N64 game to the 360. According to the article, Reggie Fils-Aime was in full support of the port, but Satoru Iwata pulled the plug on the project at the last minute saying that under no circumstances would the game appear on the 360.

This would have been THE BEST THING EVAR. Besides Brawl.

Sakurai confirms no DLC for Brawl

BrawlFORrealz

No new characters. No new songs. No new assist trophies. No new NOTHING. It’s enough to make a fanboy emo.

IGN: We have to ask because there are so many rumors about this. Are there any hidden characters to come? Can you unlock more hidden fighters by way of WiiConnect24 or will you offer new downloadable content — new fighters, for example. — using the service?

Masahiro Sakurai: No. There are no characters that can be unlocked via connecting to WiiConnect24 or interacting in that fashion. And I may be mistaken here, but the Wii doesn’t have a hard drive — it’s a disc-based system — so I don’t think we’ll be doing that, I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Read the rest of the interview here on IGN’s painfully slow wonderful site, including this little tidbit:

IGN: Have you received interest from other third parties who would very much like to have their characters included in Smash Bros. Brawl?

Masahiro Sakurai: Nope. No other ones.

Megaman creator Keiji Inafune was waiting for you to call him! Oh, you silly game developers! I see where you were confused.

Now get to work on that Megaman character pack for Brawl already, Sakurai.

New Red Alert 3 Details Revealed

Soviet Base Art

Just a day after confirmation of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3’s existence, Electronic Arts has revealed a number of new details. Set for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Red Alert 3 brings back the Allies and the Soviets as well as a third Japanese faction, and introduces a fully co-operative campaign mode. And it seems the game is farther along in development than one would have expected, as invites to a private beta will be included in copies of the Command & Conquer 3 expansion pack, Kane’s Wrath.

EA seems to have two main focuses with Red Alert 3: a return to the goofy and playful nature of the past two entries in the series, and a greater focus on accessibility. “The Red Alert games are known for challenging hardcore strategy gamers with depth, variety, and innovative gameplay. But they also belong to that rare breed of games that can draw in more casual players with their over-the-top stories, instantly accessible mechanics, and straight-to-the-fun design,” said Mike Verdu, general manager of EALA. “With Red Alert 3, our team is continuing that proud tradition by introducing genre-first features like co-operative campaign play, which rewards veterans and casual players alike. In Red Alert 3, friends and family can always have your back.”

Red Alert 3 takes place after leaders in the Soviet Union go back in time to change history and set themselves on a course to world dominance. But as with all time-traveling science fiction, something goes terribly wrong, and they instead assure the rise of a new third faction: the Empire of the Rising Sun. This sets the stage for an alternate reality future where the Japanese Empire became a high-tech military super power, where the Soviet Union continues to thrive, and where the Allies enter this three-way struggle for hegemony.

The alternate reality setting also paves the way for the ridiculous units and technologies the Red Alert series is known for. Some old favorites return, such as Tesla coils, war blimps, trained dolphins, and teleportation devices, and new units and technologies include floating island fortresses, transforming tanks, invisibility, and best of all, armored bears. Naval combat will also get a greater focus this time, but no further details were announced.

Additionally, a special episode of the C&C BattleCast video podcast reveals a few more bits of information. Chris Corry, who was the senior development director for Command & Conquer 3, takes up the reigns for Red Alert 3. He assures that while the campaign will be built for co-operative play, you can make your way through it on your own by being teamed with custom AI generals with different personalities. Could these generals be playable in multiplayer games, like in Command & Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour? Hmm…

As for the beta, additional details can be found on the official C&C website, but the date of the beta won’t be revealed until this summer. Stay tuned for more details on that when they become available, and we’ll pass along anything else we can learn about Red Alert 3 in the meantime.

It’s about time they come out with a new Red Alert. I need something new to spend my time on. Since there is a Co-Operative mode of play, this time around it seems the R.A. series may seem a bit like playing Risk. I would almost say it’s a reason to get the PS3, But since it’s already available for the 360..

New Guitar Hero gives sweet emotion to Aerosmith fans

Revolution X-2?

-From Yahoo News-
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Activision Inc on Friday unveiled a new “Guitar Hero” video game focusing on the rock band Aerosmith, taking the billion-dollar franchise in a new direction.

Called “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith,” the new game will arrive in stores this summer, a surprise to many analysts and fans who had expected the next title to come out closer to the year-end holiday shopping season.
Aerosmith, known for hits such as “Dream On” and “Sweet Emotion,” is the top-selling American rock band of all time, with sales of 66.5 million albums in the United States alone.

The game will feature about 30 Aerosmith songs as well as others from various acts that have opened for the band. The price has not yet been set.
“The premise is that it’s going to cover the 30-plus years of the band, from high school all the way through the rock superstardom of today,” Kai Huang, head of Activision’s RedOctane unit, which guides development of the franchise, told Reuters in an interview.

NiGHTS Bonus Content Hidden on Disc

From 1UP.com

If you picked up NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams shortly after its release in December, there’s a good chance you’ve finished the game up and put it on the shelf. Not so fast, though. Sega revealed to 1UP today that they have hidden some fun bonus stuff into the game that can only be viewed at the right time of year.

These special changes happen within the “My Dream” portion of the game where players raise A-LIFE (artificial life). Each month, A-LIFE will celebrate the season in a unique way. Here’s the info Sega’s shared with us on the events:

  • January: Nightopians ring in the New Year by setting off fireworks once every hour beginning at midnight on January 1.
  • February: Nightopians revisit the New Year theme to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This time you can catch them holding a giant dragon and throwing firecrackers.
  • March: March is the month of carnivals, and as such many Nightopians will don a mask for the occasion.
  • April: For this month the Nightopians show off their passion by wearing a Flamenco-inspired rose.
  • May: The Japanese celebrate the Boys’ Festival on May 5, and so do your Nightopians. This month they can be seen flying a carp streamer.
  • June: Acknowledging the tradition of June weddings, Nightopians will appear with a boquet or flower basket.
  • July: Nightopians equip themselves with bull armor and a red cape to celebrate the Bull-Running Festival.
  • August: Nightopians turn to music, performing with various instruments during this month.
  • September: The Nightopians transition into fall with full moon paper fans.
  • October: Nightopians will dress up as witches for Halloween and will also carry pumpkin lanterns throughout this month.
  • November: Autumn leaves and fruit make for a perfectly nationality-free Thanksgiving for the Nightopians.
  • December: Here’s where the Nightopians really go nuts. Throughout December, the Nightopians will dress as Santa and join together under a Christmas tree. They can also be seen carrying around cake, wearing a tricorn, and letting off fireworks. On December 24 and 25 specifically the Nightopians will sing a special Christmas song.
  • According to Sega, the game decides which event to use based on checking the Wii’s calendar. If you’re willing to tool around with the Wii’s calendar, you should be able to see any of these special events at your own leisure instead of having to pull NiGHTS back off the shelf once a month — but only if you’re not connected to the internet. Once your Wii has connected to the net, it checks the system’s internal clock and corrects the date.

We’re also digging for some screenshots of the new content; we’ll update the story if and when those show up. Until then 1UP’s review of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will have to suffice.

    Brawl Music - Part 2

This is a CD. No shit!! This is a CD.

In the last post I showed you a partial tracklist for Brawl straight from the Dojo. Now for the impatient (like me) there is a rip of the game music straight off the disc. Nearly 1 gigabyte of music, 314 tracks! For those of you keeping track, GC discs only held 1.5 gigs, so the soundtrack alone is almost the size of Melee. The rip is playable with the already existing in_cube plugin for Winamp.

    OMG YES!! DOWNLOAD ME!!

Now in MP3 format thanks to the boys at Smashboards:
Download the mp3 torrent (approx 1 gb)

And here are some Youtubed tracks to tide you over while you download:

    Theme of Samus Aran

    Mute City

    Bramble Blast

    Gangplank Galleon

    A completely different Zelda Medley

Yell Dead Cell (Unchanged from MGS2: The Other Side)

    Pokemon Red/Blue medley

    Brawl Music

I’ve been waiting for this. :)  This is a list of all the bgm music for each level BEFORE collecting any cds.
